New year, new you? Fancy challenging yourself this year? Introducing Summit Else Events , new for 2023 - group walks, challenge hikes and more.
Kicking off with our first hiking challenge:
You'll set off and finish in the village of Rivington in Lancashire and head across the moors taking in beautiful surroundings whilst putting your grit to the test against the clock. Hike, run, hop, skip, moonwalk, you choose, it's your challenge!
This will take determination and training and it helps to have a smile on your face. A day out you'll never forget and a medal to show for your blisters. This is very achievable if you want it and train for it.
Starting at the popular Rivington Hall Barn car park, you’ll head off through the Pinetum and begin a short ascent in the direction of Winter Hill and its iconic mast. The trail will take you around the greener outskirts of Bolton before a 1km road section adjacent to Delph reservoir and onto Witton Weavers Way. Winter Hill will remain in sight as you head across the moors on a well-marked trail, passing Belmont reservoir and the ruins of Hollinshead Hall Well House. You will then continue through the woods to Upper and lower Roddlesworth reservoirs before reaching Abbey Village. From here, you’ll head to Brinscall before the last home stretch through the picturesque White Coppice and Anglezarke itself. You’ll pass Anglezarke reservoir and finally Upper Rivington reservoir before completing the full loop and reaching the finish line for a well-deserved feast and a medal!
There will be checkpoints during the hike where refreshments will be available, and friendly staff on hand throughout.
Pizzas will also be available at the finish!
