Race Route - Named in memory of local fell runner James Coulson, the race starts and finishes at Glen Ruy Farm. The full course visits John's Cairn, then the summits of Slieau Lhost and Mullagh Ouyr, before descending steeply to the remains of the Snaefell mines. The equally steep climb to Cronk Y Vaare is then tackled before returning to the farm to finish. Expect steep, rough and boggy ground and long sections without paths.
The short/junior course is fully flagged, climbing first to the Creg, then dropping to the valley beyond.
Route descriptions and maps for both races can be found here.
The start and finish sections of the course (fields between Glen Ruy Farm and the mountain wall, including John's Cairn) are private land and can only be accessed on race day. This section can be bypassed by starting/finishing at Creg ny Baa.
Minimum age of entry is 18 years for the long course (but runners must turn 19 by 31st December 2023) and 12 for the short/junior race (juniors must be at least 13 years old by the 31st Dec 2023).
Held under FRA rules, waterproof whole body cover (with hood and taped seams), hat, gloves, map and compass suitable for navigation, whistle and emergency food are required for runners in the full course race. Short/junior course runners must bring waterproof jacket (not just windproof) and trousers, hat, gloves and whistle.
