Coronation Special Town & Country Spunch Event. Scatter Score event - part urban / part countryside using a hybrid map. 4 course length options. Suitable for all ages and abilities. Parking, Loos, Registration, Start, Finish, charity cake stall and picnic space all at the Aldephi Mill in the picturesque town of Bollington near Macclesfield.
60+ checkpoints to choose from, route choice and decisions galore! 50% on the fantastic tracks and paths in the scenic countryside surrounding the town, and 50% in the historic and occasionally hilly town of Bollington, with its canal, disused railway line, and typical northern streets. Plenty to keep you interested. Will you visit the famous White Nancy landmark?
Bring an outdoor chair, table and a picnic. After you have finished there will be a charity cake stall and there is a nice place to sit and chat for a while and discuss your route! There may even be bunting!
There will be 4 courses to choose from. You can decide which course to tackle on the day - they all use the same map. For each course you are required to choose and visit the relevant number of checkpoints for your course. Eg. GET12 - means visit 12 checkpoints of the 60+ available. The objective being to visit the required number of checkpoints and return to the finish in the fastest time. S-punching using the MapRun app on your smartphone or Garmin.
For all courses it is likely that you will have to visit at least some checkpoints in both Town and Country in order to be crowned champion!
These are (probably) about the optimum distances you will actually cover, and the terrain underfoot offers fast running / walking both in town and country. You may do a little less or more depending on your route choice and execution. The amount of ascent will be no more than 2.5% of the course length. The shorter courses can be done without needing to visit the bigger hills.
Please choose a course length that you are likely to be able to complete no later than 1:30pm! (So if you expect to take more than 2 hours please go for an early start time!)
The map is a unique and beautiful fusion of an enlarged and enhanced extract of the OS Explorer map and an orienteering street map (OOMap).
Run, jog or walk - the event is suitable for trail runners, park runners, fell runners, orienteers, walkers, and newcomers alike.
Start anytime between 1045 and 1130.
