This race starts at the bottom of Stock Ghyll Lane (behind the Salutation Hotel) GR 337044 and finishes slightly further up the road than this at the layby of Force Cafe (formerly the old Kelsick school). An out-and-back route, this race starts with an unforgiving short, sharp ascent of Stock Ghyll Lane (which is actually a tarmacked road) to the fell gate/stile. A runnable section to a 2nd gate leads onto a thigh-burning section of steep stone steps that head directly upwards. A short section of open fell follows, over rough grass and onwards to the rocky summit. Please follow the flagged route to the summit and then away from the summit. The summit is the only checkpoint and although runners can take their own preferred route, most competitors descend to the R of the main path as you're looking down the fell, crossing back onto the main path near the bottom.
Although short and sweet this race should not be underestimated. The route is very steep and extremely rough underfoot. Slippery, wet conditions can make the descent treacherous and if the mist is down the ability to navigate is essential. Please also be aware that the road section at the beginning and end will not be closed to cars although it will be marshalled. Runners must take great caution especially when descending at speed and negotiating blind corners.
Please bring your full FRA kit to registration with you. Kit will be checked before registration. No kit; no race. It should also go without saying that rudeness regarding kit to the RO or any volunteers checking kit is unacceptable.
Please note that Ambleside AC do not allow the use of certain GPS functions for navigation in their races, in line with FRA rules.

Registration at Force Cafe, Stockghyll Lane, Ambleside between 10 am - 11.30 am. There is a 10 min walk down the hill to the start behind the Salutation Hotel in the town centre. Be on start line by 11.50 for runner count, random kit checks and race briefing.
Prize giving will take place at Force Cafe.
Parking – there is no parking at Force Cafe. When parking locally, please be considerate.
There are no refunds but substitutions can be made on SI entries up to the 25th December.
CANCELLATION PROCEDURE
This race will be cancelled if the organiser considers conditions to be too dangerous for the summit marshals / competitors. Road closure due to snow or floods may also necessitate a cancellation or postponement of the race (as has been done in the past). Notices will be put on the Ambleside AC website before 9am on the day of the race if it is cancelled. Please check before driving.
We are afraid that for every damaged or lost dibber Sportident charge £30, so we have to pass this charge on to the individual competitor. Please look after them!
