The Magnificent 7 is an annual road race organised by the Tamar Trotters running club and has been going since 1999. A scenic figure of 8 road course takes in the country lanes and hamlets of South East Cornwall. The start, finish, registration, refreshments and prizes all take place at Saltash Rugby club.
This 7 mile measured road race consists of 200 meters of grass at the start and finish, with1 mile on pavement and cycle lanes on the approach to the start and finish and the remainder on undulating country lanes, with challenging hills at 1 mile and 5.5 miles
The first race was won by Steve Payne in 40.23 and Revis Crowle in 50.32 with the course records set by Tom Merson of Exmouth Harriers (36.51) and Emma Stepto of Cornwall AC (41.55).
There is a welcome water station after the first climb at 1.5 miles, which is passed again just before 4 miles.
The race usually attracts around 300 runners with a good mix of seasoned club runners along with those looking to enjoy the challenge.
Medals are awarded and well earned by all who finish the course.
There is a bar and food available following the race back at Saltash Rugby club.
Changing rooms and showers are available at the club and cars are parked about a ten minute walk away in a local industrial estate.
Start time: 11:00am.
The race is part of the Cornish GP series which involves chip timing and a formal presentation of awards to all the category winners.
