About Us
Northern Fells Running Club is a friendly fell running club with over 100 members. We formed in December 2014 and are based in and around the Northern Fells area of the Lake District National Park. We have a strong presence at most Cumbrian races in our iconic red-with-white-stripe kit.
We are primarily a Fell Running club with our social runs held on the fells every second Sunday and many less official runs out with other club members as company. We welcome all new members whether experienced fell runners or new to the sport.
We encourage members to take part in FRA Fell races and run a number of Club Championships, suitable for all abilities, designed to promote participation in local Fell races.
We organise three iconic Fell races in the Northern Fells area: Carrock Fell, The Old Crown Round and Fellside. Many of our members also compete in regional and country-wide championships.
You can find more information about us on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/NorthernFellsRunningClub/ or our website: http://www.northernfellsrc.org.uk/

Choosing Your Membership
NFRC is a UK Athletics affiliated club recognised by the Fell Runners Association and England Athletics for the disciplines of Fell, Road, Trail and Cross Country.
If you wish to be a full member of the club including the option to represent the club as a competing member in Fell races please join as a Full Member.
Any club member wishing to compete in English Championships, British Championship, inter-club Fell Relays and other Regional, National or International Fell Race series must also be a member of either the Fell Runners Association or England Athletics. Northern Fells Running Club encourages all members, competitive or not, to join the Fell Runners Association (FRA) which has a number of benefits as well as supporting our great sport. You can find out more and join the FRA here: Join the FRA
Northern Fells Running Club is primarily a Fell running club, but members wishing to compete for the club (wearing the club vest) in Road or Cross-country races may need to be a member of EA. However you can still compete individually, i.e. not representing the club. Check the individual race rules for more details. If you wish to be a member of EA, please join as Senior Full Member plus optional EA membership
Q: Do I need to be a member of the FRA or EA to compete in Fell races?
No, as Northern Fells Running Club is affiliated with the relevant bodies you can join as a Junior or Senior member only.
We encourage members to join the FRA but it is not obligatory.
Q: What about for the English Championship series or other regional Fell series?
Yes, to represent the club you must be a member of either the FRA or EA, but not both.
Q: Do I need to be registered with EA to compete in Road or Cross-Country races?
Yes, members wishing to compete for the club in Road or Cross-country races may need to be a member of EA. Note that many road races are commercial events which do not require any memberships. Please check the race-specific competition rules.
If you choose to join England Athletics this must be via the club at the same time as joining or renewing with Northern Fells Running Club. The EA fee is passed to EA on your behalf and we add £1 to cover administration fees.
Q: What if I don’t want to race and only want to run socially?
Many members prefer to enjoy fell running without entering races. We welcome everyone who enjoys getting out on the fells and have a lively social running calendar.
