Lilla's Revenge is back for another outing... on the beautiful North York Moors presented by SilverBackTrails
Lilla’s Revenge……
This is a 10-mile trail running event along part of the iconic Lykewake Walk long-distance FP visiting Lilla Howe which is home to the oldest cross on the Moors, Lilla Cross. Dating back to the 7th century it commemorates the death of Lilla a thane to Edwin King of Benicia who sacrificed himself to save his Lord from an assassin.
You will also visit Louvern Howe which is believed to be a Neolithic/Bronze Age long barrow burial site.
Then it’s a long gentle run back down to Jugger Beck before the climb up onto Jugger Moor once again. Throughout the route, you will be blessed with views stretching out to the coast at Whitby onto Ravenscar, Scarborough Castle and the Wolds all the way around towards Blakey Ridge right to the coast off of East Cleveland.
But beware as Lilla will get his revenge.....and there is always a forfeit to pay for revenge.
A sting in the trail will have to be overcome before the finish line.
Each finisher will receive a bespoke medal which has been specially commissioned to celebrate their achievement.
There will be a time limit of 3 hours.
All competitors are to carry as a minimum
This is the minimum that should be carried, February can still be challenging weather-wise.....
There will be some flags and marshals to aid navigation but participants are expected to navigate themselves around the course. The route will be marked on a master map at registration.
There will be water, coke and Haribo-type sweets at the end however during the event participants need to be self-sufficient for circa 10 miles and 3 hours.
The event start will be at the Lay-by on the A171 above Jugger Howe where the Lykewake Walk FP crosses the road. Area of grid reference NZ 945002
Entry is limited to 50 participants
There is ample parking at the start on the old road /Lay-by at the start. A charge of £1 per car will be collected on the day and donated to the National Park.
All participants must be at least 18 years of age.
All entries will be via SiEntries with strictly no entries on the day.
Lilla will get his revenge at 11 am on Sunday the 23rd of February with registration for number collection and a map marking from 10 am.
