The longest medium Lakeland race with fantastic ridge running on the grassy Eastern fells. The race consists of a 12.3 miles, 3300ft, clockwise horseshoe of the Kentmere Valley including Ill Bell, High Street and Kentmere Pike. Listed as just 20k so it just creeps in as a medium race, its not long but its a long medium.
The Kentmere Horseshoe race is run under FRA rules for competition. Minimum kit requirements apply and will be strictly enforced. You should arrive at the race prepared to carry waterproof whole body cover, map and compass suitable for navigating the course, whistle, hat and gloves and emergency food.
The following cut offs will apply on two out of the three checkpoints.
· Ill Bell - Cut Off - 80 Minutes
· High Street - Cut Off - 140 Minutes
· Kentmere Pike - No Cut Off
These cut offs will be strictly adhered to and should you reach a checkpoint beyond this time, you will be disqualified from the race. Checkpoint marshals will advise you to turn back or direct you off the hill, please do not continue if missing the cut off and you must report to the finish. The route is flagged and marshalled from Hallow Bank back to the finish.
Parking will be at the Hollingsworth & Vose factory in the Kentmere Valley (small charge applicable). Refreshments available in the Kentmere village hall. Pete Bland Sports will have their mobile shop at the race.
