This year's UK Athletics British Fell & Hill Relays are being hosted by Wharfedale Harriers. The event will take place at Appletreewick in Wharfedale.

ENTRY PROCESS/TIMETABLE FOR 2024 RELAYS 

This process will be led by the person(s) from Wharfedale responsible for entries with support from SiEntries & Ian Hartman (UK Athletics Fell Championships Sub-Committee).

  • PRE-ENTRY WINDOW 1
    Opening Date: 1st July
    Closing Date: 21st July at 23:59 

For teams in championship categories who have been reserved a place based on their performance in the 2023 relays i.e. the first 20 teams in the open categories, first 10 in Over 40's and first 3 in the Male & Female Over 50 categories. The list can be viewed here.
Please add your pre-entry before the closing date, and invitations to confirm and pay will be sent out through SiEntries on or before 25th July & teams must pay by 31st July

    Opening Date: 25th July at 10am
    Closing Date: 18th August

Ballot Entry - Entries open to all clubs that are affiliated for fell running to UKA through their Home Country Athletics Federation (HCAF) to enter the ballot.

CLUBS WHICH HAVE ACCEPTED AN ENTRY FOR A CATEGORY IN PRE-ENTRY WINDOW 1 MUST NOT ENTER  ANOTHER TEAM IN THAT CATEGORY

PLEASE DO NOT ENTER MORE THAN ONE TEAM  IN EACH CATEGORY - ONLY ONE TEAM IN EACH CATEGORY PER CLUB WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE BALLOT

PLEASE  ENTER CATEGORIES IF YOU ARE SURE THAT YOU CAN FIELD A COMPLETE TEAM IN THAT CATEGORY

YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SWITCH CATEGORY OR REGISTER AN INCOMPLETE TEAM ON THE DAY


Top 10/Top 5 Submission - Teams which did not qualify by their 2023 results, but who feel that they could achieve a top 10 finish in the open categories/top 5 finish in over 40 categories should pre-enter and then send a submission with evidence that they have the potential to achieve a top 10/top 5 finish to fellrelayentries@wharfedaleharriers.co.uk by 1st August.
Submissions will be rigorously assessed by an independent panel including representatives from each of the home countries by 8th August. Successful teams will receive invitations by 11th August and must pay by 18th August.

Mixed Teams Due to the limitation on numbers there is no option for mixed teams in the Championship or V50 categories.  The V60 category is open and can take teams of any composition, male or female.

 

  • BALLOT INVITATIONS

A ballot for remaining places in open categories, over 40 & over 50 categories plus all places in Open (ie Mixed) over 60 category will be held on Thursday 22nd August.  The draw will take place at 7pm in the Cruck Barn behind the Craven Arms, Appletreewick.  Interested parties are invited to attend the draw and may arrive from 6.30pm.

Invitations will be sent out through SiEntries to the successful teams in the ballot on or before 1st September.

Ballot invitations must be accepted/paid for by 16th September.

  • REMAINING PLACES

Invitations will be sent out to teams based on their sequence in the ballot to fill any remaining places.

Opening Date:  23rd September
Closing Date: When all places have been filled or 11th October

Courses

  • Leg 1: solo.
  • Leg 2: pairs.
  • Leg 3: paired navigation.
  • Leg 4:  solo.

Runners aged 16+ on the day of the race may compete in legs one & four, otherwise it's 18+ for all other legs.

Further details of each leg will be released nearer the time.

Recces - Recces allowed following the release of the course maps.

GPS usage - GPS usage is prohibited for navigation purposes.

Event HQ - Masons Farm, Appletreewick.

Start time - 11am.

Competition Rules - UK athletics rules will apply.

Kit - Full FRA kit required.

Parking - ​Appletreewick. £5 per car. Minibuses by prior arrangement. Exact location will be released in September.

Coaches must drop off at Burnsall, approx 1.5 mile walk.

Note there is a narrow archway on route at Bolton Priory, which has restricted width of 2.8 metres and height of 3.3 metres.

Accommodation - Local campsites nearby, no parking in car park field.

Club Tents - Allowed.  One per club, maximum 3m x 3m, except by prior arrangement.

Food and Drink - Entry fee includes food and drink for all competitors.  Food and drink available for non competitors on site or in the local village.

Impact

  • We aim to lower the impact of our event.  As such, we have some small requests:
  • bring your own cutlery, water bottle, mug or flask.
  • Travel by bike or in full cars or minibuses.
