Oswiu's Revenge is a low key friendly trail running event of circa 10 miles around the Black Hambleton and Silton Woods area south of Osmotherley.
The event is low key and friendly but it will challenge you and probably take you out of your comfort zone.
As with all the Revenge events a "sting in the trail awaits"...
The route will take you along forest tracks and ancient trods with views of the North Yorkshire Moors and the Vale of York...
Legend has it that Oswiu or Oswy son of King Oswald drowned near Roseberry Topping, his grief-stricken mother died soon after some miles to the south in a place that came to be known as;
'Os-by-his-mother-lay'
Now the village of Osmotherly.
"Oswiu will get his revenge"...
Each finisher will receive a bespoke medal specially commissioned to celebrate their achievement and a certificate.
There will be a time limit of 3.5 hours.
All competitors are to carry as a minimum
This is the minimum that should be carried, May can still be challenging weather-wise.....
There will be some flags and marshals to aid navigation but participants are expected to navigate themselves around the course. The route will be marked on a master map at registration. A gpx of the route will be sent to participants before the event.
There will be water, coke and Haribo-type sweets at the end however during the event participants need to be self-sufficient for circa 10 miles and up to 3.5 hours.
The event start will be from Square Corner just outside of Osmotherley
Entry is limited to 50 participants
There is ample parking at the start/ finish. A charge of £1 per car will be collected on the day and donated to the National Park.
All participants must be at least 18 years of age.
All entries will be via SiEntries with strictly no entries on the day.
Oswiu will exact his revenge from 10 am on Sunday the 18th of May 2025, with registration for number collection and marking of maps from 09:15 am.
Canine running partners are welcome as long as they are kept on a short lead or harness as there is likely to be sheep grazing in the area. To aid with safety dog powered owners will start five minutes after the rest of the field, your 3.5 hours time limit will be adjusted accordingly. There are a number of technical ascents and descents throughout the route.
Please do not be put off by the navigation element of the event getting lost is not allowed, we have not had anyone go adrift up to now!
The North York Moors and surrounding area are bursting with life at this time of year, with tree blossom and wild Rhododendrons coming into bloom on parts of the route, along with spring lambs, nesting birds, and if you are lucky a glimpse of fawns trotting between the trees...
