Introduction
Held under UK:Athletics rules and with the kind permission of The Canal & River Trust, this non-stop 145 mile race is from Little Venice, Paddington to the heart of Bristol. The route take the Grand Union towpath to Slough, the Jubilee River and Thames paths to Reading, the Kennet & Avon Canal towpath to Bath, and finally the River Avon path, to finish at the Lightship John Sebastian in Bathurst Basin. Competitors who must be 20 or over on race day, are recommended to have their own support crews, but up to 75 Unsupported runners can be catered for by the Organisers, Canalrace C.I.C.. Trail Running Association Permit Number: TBC
Organised on the same lines as the GUCR, this 145 mile race follows easy to navigate canal, river and railway paths. Competitors receive comprehensive maps of the entire route which passes through some of the best of English countryside. On the way runners “descend” the magnificent Caen Hill flight of 29 locks, a drop of 237 feet in 2 miles, one of the “Seven Wonders of the Waterways” and well worth seeing.
KACR is the second of a three race series “The Canalslam” totalling over 400 miles. Each race can be entered as a one-off, but competitors completing all three receive a special award. Again there are no entry qualifications, but a schedule to fit the 45 hour overall time limit is required.
Easy route navigation – detailed maps and a canal to follow.
Plenty of support – feed stations approximately every 25 miles, and buddies allowed from the 77.5 mile point.
Transport for retirees – a lift to the nearest station for anyone having a bad day.
Easy to meet cut-off times – simply in line with the generous overall time limits.
No qualification – previous experience of just a marathon has proven enough.
