Welcome to the Black Mountain Challenge!
The Black Mountain Challenge is a self-supported, ultra cycling bikepacking event designed to test your endurance, mental fortitude, and love for adventure. This route is very challenging, it is not recommended for first time bikepackers or those looking to attempt their first ultra cycling event; be prepared for a very challenging, demanding and exhilarating journey.

Route:
Distance: 150 - 155 miles (240km) The route is subject to minor variances pending final route checks and conditions.
Elevation: 4,500m (14,800ft)
Terrain: Expect a mix of smooth roads, forestry roads, double track, single track, and everything in between.
Self-Supported:
This event emphasises self-sufficiency. Participants must be responsible for their own health and safety, ensuring they are fit and experienced enough to tackle the demanding route. Riders are required to carry all their own kit and supplies, including mandatory items for remote areas along the route. Third-party insurance covering sportive and endurance events is essential. This event has a difficulty rating of 8/10 meaning you should be used to riding distances of 60-80 miles per day, covering 4,000-7,000ft of elevation on difficult and challenging terrain.
Safety and Tracking:
Safety is paramount. To enhance safety and tracking, GPS trackers and event mapping will be provided. These tools allow organisers to monitor your progress and enable friends and family to follow your journey and provide support along the way.
