Mills n Moors Series

Join us as we celebrate the ace trails that radiate from the Piece Hall in Halifax on our final ride of 2024:

 - 'blue' grade route at 25km / 560 meters of climbing,

 - 'red' grade route at 49km / 780 meters of climbing and

 - 'black' grade route at 66km with a total elevation of 1,200 meters!

The route can be competed on any gravel bike, E-Bike or mtb.  We ride on bridleways, forest tracks, urban greenways, eg, the 7 mile long ace Spen Valley Greenway (SVGW) and the canal towpath.

Some downhill and uphill sections are physically challenging and there are tracks that have been weathered for over 800 years but the routes are NOT techy or downhill mtb routes.

You will receive all three route files in the week leading up to the event.  Each route is self-guided with no way markings or flags showing the trail.

Maps of each route can be found on the Yorkshire Divide website: https://yorkshiredivide.co.uk/mills-n-moors-series

The Events

  • The event hub is at Cycle Gear, an independent bike shop in Halifax

  • The start line is at the front of the shop at 68 Horton Street, HX1 1QE

  • Register in the shop on Sunday between 8am - 10am (NO 'on the day entry')

  • Any gravel bike / mountain bike / E-bike is welcome and would get you around the route

  • There is a group social ride for up to 7 riders (any larger and it gets complicated), there is no criteria to join just a sense of adventure. To secure a place email ‘Group Ride’ to (Adrian) at yorkshiredivide@gmail.com

  • The start line is 1 minute from Halifax train station

The routes

  • It is a self-guided ride with no way markings saying ‘Mills n Moors route’

  • You will receive all three gpx route files in the week leading up to the event

  • Its your choice which route to ride as any type of bike is fine on each route - gravel bike, e-bike, mtb.

  • The ‘blue’, ‘red’ and ‘black’ refers to how strenuous the trail is by distance and elevation and not by how rough the tracks are.

  • Minimum age of 12 years old when accompanied by a parent / guardian

  • Halifax is ‘car park’ town with 700+ car parking spaces / map on YD website / £1 all day parking

On the day

  • Enjoy a relaxed tea / coffee / biscuits / home made cakes inside the bike shop BEFORE and AFTER your ride

  • Pick up your embroidered cloth badge inside the shop

  • Toilet facilities inside the shop
  • Have a look around the bike shop and use your 15% discount voucher (on full price items)

  • Head off when you're ready as there is NO ‘mass start’

  • A list of kit that you should carry is on the website: www.yorkshiredivide.co.uk

Group social ride

There is an option to join a small group ride which departs at 10.10am from the bike shop. There is no fixed speed we cycle at. We will be stopping and waiting for each other at the top of the many hills and we take turns opening the many gates! Minimum age of 18 years old on the group ride.  Any working mtb / e-bike / gravel bike welcome.

It should be note that there the group social ride will take between 3-5 hours and it is not a 'guided' ride. It is not lead by a profession/qualified outdoor instructor and there is no mechanical backup except the fixing of the occasional puncture.

The organisers do not provide insurance

It is advisable, but not compulsory, to have your own bike and personal injury insurance. Being insured through either British Cycling, Cycling UK or other appropriate body would help cover you for your personal liability and any possible bike loss/damage or injury.
