Event only open to Pair & Triple person teams this year - No solo entries.

A new 1-Day only single linear course will also be available this year on the Saturday, again for Pairs & Triples.

The GMC is a two-day Autumn Mountain Marathon (with the new one-day course option too). The days are fairly short and the weather may be very wintery with snow (potentially both lying and falling), high winds and poor visibility. All categories are a serious undertaking and competitors take part at the own risk. For safety reasons, we no longer have the solo categories we have had in the past. The event is only open to pairs or triples to provide some contingency in the event of an emergency. If you do not like or feel competant to navigate on foot through mountains in cold Scottish very possibly wintery weather, DO NOT ENTER.

The Event takes place in the hills and forests around the Glen Dye / Clachnaben / Mount Battock area. Each day will include traditional orienteering on Orienteering scale maps and open-hill Mountain Marathon navigation on maps based on OS or similar, at 1:50k or 1:40k.  There are three linear 2-day course options, Long, Medium & Short and a 1-day course is also available on the Saturday. Due to the time of the year, overnight bags will be transported to the overnight camp, and back to the finish the next day (14.5kg max per person), although competitors will still need to carry full hill gear including safety equipment for the time of year. 1-Day Saturday Course competitors will not get bags transported but there will get a shuttle back from their Finish to the car park. They also need to carry full hill gear including safety equipment. There is a maximum number of 125 for all the 2-day courses combined, plus an extra 40 on the Saturday course.

Facilities will be provided at the overnight camp to allow for a social, convivial evening, with heating and food. Car parking, Registration, Start and Finish will be in the Feuchside area, south west of Banchory. Competitors must be 18 or over (16 if paired with a parent or guardian). Competitors must be suitably fit and experienced for travelling in the mountains at that time of year. We will screen for competance, and exclude anyone we feel does not have suitable experience.

The Event Information, Rules and Kit List is on the Grampian Orienteers Website at https://grampoc.com/gmc/. You must check and accept this before entering.
