She Who Walks: Hungry Hushes & map skill

Longer Walk: 6.5 miles – 980ft of ascent
We will meet at the layby in Whaw. From there we will follow a track to Great Punchard Gill and Little Punchard Head. We'll borrow a grouse butt for a short snack break. It may be a little soggy under foot here as we follow the bridle way towards Great Pinseat. We can pop to the trig point if keen! We'll then follow the track and a trod down through the Hugry Hushes and back to the road.
During this walk there will be some optional map skills. This is entirely optional and it's not meant to feel like a course! If you don't wish to take part and would rather just relax and enjoy the walk that is also fine!
At the start of the walk we will look at some pacing skills and talk about how we measure distance on a map. Your own personal copy of Ordnance Survey Map OL30, a map case and a compass with a scale will be useful to make the most of this.
Mandatory Kit:
- Walking boots/shoes and thick socks
- Full length trousers as some sections of the path could be overgrown. Jeans are not recommended.
- Waterproof jacket and trousers
- Warm hat and gloves
- Spare top layer in your pack
- Snacks and drinks in an easy to find section of your bag. We recommend bringing at least 500ml of drinks with you per person.
- Fully charged mobile phone
- Any personal medication needed
- A comfortable back pack to carry your own kit. You may wish to consider putting things inside a plastic bag or other waterproof bag inside your back pack
