Trails For Good are excited to invite you to the Peak District this Spring to take part in our Castle and Cake Races taking place in the beautiful village of Castleton, with history, great views, and delicious treats all on offer.
Choose between our fully waymarked short (6.5km, 200m ascent) or long (13.1km, 300m ascent) course for this Saturday morning trail run with a flexible start time between 8:00-9:30am. Simply select your 10 minute start window when registering and enjoy more space on the trails and at viewpoints thanks to our small group waved start approach.
After registering in the local village hall you will ascend Cavedale, a hidden valley below the ruins of Peveril Castle, to our start line. From here, your run starts with a short climb to the top of the hill where you are treated to a panoramic view of the Great Ridge and the iconic Shivering Mountain (Mam Tor*). Short course runners can take a moment to soak it all in before descending back to Castleton, while Long course runners continue up and over the ridge to briefly enter the Vale of Edale before completing a bucket list run across the Great Ridge all the way to Hope, returning along the valley floor to Castleton.
Finish the event by heading back to our event HQ at Castleton Village Hall where the Trails For Good team will be waiting to welcome you back from your adventure with complimentary fresh and tasty goodies from the incredible Peveril Stores & Bakery just a few doors down. If that fires up your taste buds, you'll get a further 10% discount on purchases you make in the store over £5.
*The popular route along the Great Ridge from Mam Tor has become a social media sensation of late getting lots more people out enjoying the countryside, but unfortuantely that has meant severe erosion of the footpaths. As part of our responsible event ethos, Trails For Good have become a Silver Peak Partner with the Peak District National Park Foundation and are contributing to the Paths and Trails Appeal to help repair sections along this route. Your participation in our race helps us to help the Foundation in protecting this wonderful landscape and keeping it accessible for future generations.
Participants must be 18+.
Long course runners will be required to carry a mandatory kit and Short course runners will be required to wear kit appropriate for the terrain and conditions (full details avaialble on our website here).
This event will be held under UK Athletics rules and has been licenced by the Trail Running Association (https://www.tra-uk.org/).
