Black Combe is tough late-winter race with good long climbs and interesting weather. The final descent is one of the best of the year and there’s a pie and a brew in the village hall afterwards.
Registration opens at 10am in Silecroft Village Hall as usual, and Silecroft railway station is very convenient. Entry on the day is available and costs £10.
There are extra prizes for new records and for the fastest descent from south summit to finish. This is the first race in the Pete Bland Lakes Grand Prix, and thanks to PBS sponsorship, the prizes are not bad. It’s also the first counter for the Bob Grieve trophies, awarded to the fastest man and woman (combined time) across Black Combe, Caw, Dunnerdale and Kirkby Moor.
The race is not likely to be cancelled for snow or ice on the fells, but if the valley road is blocked we might have to postpone. Please see the creaky old race website (sorry) for last minute information.
