Chip Timing
20km Team, 15km, 10km swimmers (in-water)
There will be an 'in-water' timing system where swimmers will be required to touch a timing pad at the end of each of their 1km swim lap. i.e. 15km swimmers will pass this point 15 times etc. Chip attached to LEFT WRIST outside of wetsuit. Relay teams will pass timing chips onto following team members.
20km Relays, 5km, 1.5km swimmers (on exit ramp)
You will leave the water at the end of your swim and pass over the timing mat at the top of the ramp to receive your times. You DO NOT NEED to touch the in-water timing pad. Attach your timing chip to your ANKLE outside of wetsuit
Relay Teams
Each team member will swim 2.5km (2 x 1km, 1 x 500m lap) then pass timing chip to next swimmers at the top of the swim exit ramp. Once all four swimmers have completed their first swims they will then repeat the cycle once more until the team completes 20km. Each of the four Relay swimmers must swim 5km in total.
Swim Courses will be 15 x 1km CLOCKWISE laps (15km), 10 for the 10km, 5 for the 5km and 1 x 1km lap plus 500m lap for the 1.5km.
Relays swim 2 x 1km, 1 x 500m (2.5km).
In-Water Feeding (15/10km swimmers)
The 15km & 10km swimmers will be provided with a feed station. There will be NO feed station provided for 5km & 1.5km swimmers.
The 15km / 10km swimmers feed station will be located on the steps at the right hand side of the Dock, accessible from the water. If you are bringing a plus one to feed you that's great too. Swimmers will choose their own feed times and provide their own choices of food.
Water Temperature:
Expected to be 15.5c so carefully consider your ability to swim in this temperature for the length of time you expect to swim. Wear a wetsuit if you are not fully acclimatised and always err on the side of caution. You will have a few minutes in the water to settle your breathing pre-swim before race start.
Tips:
Acclimatise by swimming in some open water sessions prior to the event.
Enjoy an energy laden breakfast.
If you usually carry an inhaler label it with your name and leave at registration if you are not already carrying it on your swim.
