District 16 is an unsupported bike packing odyssey, with a fixed route of 620km with 18800m of ascent and is definitely not a GRAVEL event!

We recommend a hard tail mountain bike as minimum

The routes takes you around or past the sixteen main lakes, meres or waters in the Lake District, hence the name District 16. Starting and finishing from The Royal Barn home of Kirkby Lonsdale brewery and coffee roasters in the centre of Kirkby Lonsdale.

The route has been designed to be tough! Stu has taken inspiration from riding and completing other gruelling events such as the Highland Trail 550, Silk Road, Atlas mountain race to name a few. We wanted our epic event to showcase the English Lake District in all its beauty and brutality.

(The distance may change slightly after some of the winter storms but not to much)

Once the clock starts it will not stop until you finish. Leaving Kirkby Lonsdale taking in as much off road as possible to reach the Lake District you may even get to dip your toe into the Irish Sea on the way. On reaching the Lakes the scenery changes dramatically as does the riding, you will soon discover the technical trails, picture perfect villages, hike a bike, mountain exposure, flowing single track and the most amazing landscapes to ride your bike. After your journey through the Lakes you will begin your return discovering the mighty Howgills and one of the longest stretches of single track on the route. Then you will traverse through and round the iconic Yorkshire Three Peaks before arriving at Brownthwaite Pike known locally as Bull-pot where you can look across the Lune Valley, on a clear day you can see Blackpool Tower. From here its all downhill back to Kirkby Lonsdale and into The Barn for your well earned beer awaiting you!
