MMMs supported by KONG are back!
The long awaited return of the Mini Mountain Marathons (MMMs) - now branded as Spunch MMM and still with the kind support of KONG Running who have generously provided prize vouchers for the (more) competitive 4 hour courses.
This is the first of three Spunch MMMs supported by KONG Running in 2025. Watch this space for events #2 & #3 on Saturday 12 July (Shropshire / Wales border) and Sunday 5 Oct (North Lakes - day after the Hodgson Relays). Precise venues to be confirmed.
Still with many of the same characteristics & values of the previous events organised by Alison, Erwin, Chris, Janneke and team: always great areas & venues; always well organised & planned; always with nice cake & copious brews; always at sensible great-value entry fees! Their legacy lives on.
A few changes too: More controls / checkpoints - enabled by Satellite Punch (Spunch) technology powered by the MapRun app on your SmartPhone/Garmin/AppleWatch. More checkpoints = more route-choice, more successes & even more fun! No-flag control-sites - how good is your nav!? Course maps released online at 6pm-ish on the evening before the event allowing time to pre-plan for those who wish to. Less competitive and even lower-cost 1 hour and 2 hour course options also now available for locals, newcomers, and those who prefer a shorter adventure. Accompanied under 18s go FREE on all courses - yes we are doing all we can to encourage juniors and young families to get into the great outdoors with a map - always safely accompanied by their parents / guardians. Tiered entry fee structure - very low-cost entry fees for those who enter early! A bit more the later you leave it. Online very-late entries available including on-the-day. New pairs/teams categories allowing pairs or friends and family groups of 3 or more to participate together.
This first edition is from Meerbrook Village Hall, Meerbrook, Leek, ST13 8SR.
4-hour MMM score course (variable value controls) or standard Spunch 1hr / 2hr score course (all controls have the same value) options. Parking, Bag Drop, Loos, Start, Finish, Food & Drink all at or near the village hall. Daylight event for runners & walkers in the beautiful Staffs Moorlands part of the Peak District. Family friendly & dog friendly too.
We are excited to bring you to the Staffordshire Moorlands corner of the Peak District. On the Staffordshire / Cheshire border between Leek, Macclesfield & Buxton it is within easy reach of the M6, M56 & M60 motorways.
Run, jog or walk - with course options suitable for all - fell runners, adventure racers, orienteers, trail runners, park runners, walkers, newcomers, and families alike. 4k to 44k, the choice is yours! Great for families and friends to do together. Suitable for all ages and abilities - lots of help available for newcomers. Dogs can be brought, but must be kept on a lead and under control at all times - there will be sheep/lambing and other livestock in the area - please only bring your dog if you are happy to comply.
Start at your convenience anytime between 9am to 11am (4 hour course), 10am to 1pm (2 hour course), 11am to 1pm (1 hour course). Registration open from 9am.
Navigating with an enlarged and enhanced A3 1:12,500 OS Explorer map, visit as many checkpoints as you can in the time available to maximise your score, S-punching using the MapRun app on your smartphone, Garmin or Apple Watch.
You should be prepared for some significant ascents and descents in this part of the world! You will likely soon be enjoying Hen Cloud and the Roaches with panoramic views and much ridge running on technical trails (or off-piste). Venturing further afield, might you discover Lud's Church and the surrounding ancient woodlands or visit Flash Bottom?! With courses planned / curated by local aficianado Guy Lingford, even locals will likely discover some new places and hidden secrets!
Hand-crafted cakes and unlimited tea, coffee & squash available back in the village hall after you have finished.
With around 75 SpunchPoints to go for - how many will you bag?
The delightful little village of Meerbrook is within 35 mins drive of M6 Junctions 15, 16, 17 & 18. 45 mins from M60 J3 and M56 J6. It is particularly convenient for Macclesfield, Buxton, Leek, Ashbourne, the Potteries, Crewe, Sandbach & Congleton etc.
Hope you will come along and give it a go!
