A practical morning workshop in the heart of the South Downs National Park for any runner considering or preparing for their first race which will take them through the night, essentially covering everything I wish I had known before attempting my first 100 miler...

Through a mixture of classroom based activities and practical time out on the trail, gain skills and experience to help you feel confident:

  • Understanding required kit and making it work for you
  • Planning and managing a strategy to move through the night
  • Managing your feet so they don’t let you down
  • Getting your head around the big numbers; miles to run and hours on feet
  • Dealing with unforeseen problems so they don’t end your race early
  • Running with (or without) crew

There are plenty of long ultra races in the south of England but it can also be an effective training ground for races in the wilder areas of the UK such as Wales, the Lakes, The Moors and the Peaks. If your imagination has been sparked by the thought of a long ultra or a multi-day event or you are currently training for one, this half day workshop will enable you to feel confident and excited to take on that challenge knowing you are well prepared.

The Location

Southease YHA is in the heart of the South Downs National Park. There is on-site parking available and good road links. Alternatively, Southease train station is just down the road. Accommodation can be booked separately to the course and there is an on-site café open daily. See the YHA website for further details.
