Saturday afternoon countryside Spunch from Hotel Rudyard, Lake Rd, Rudyard, Leek ST13 8RN.
Also part of the Staffordshire Moorlands Walking Festival
1/2/3 hour score course options (choose on the day itself). Parking, Bag Drop, Loos, Start, Finish, Food & Drink all at or near the hotel. Daylight countryside Spunch for runners & walkers in beautiful Staffs Moorlands countryside. Family friendly & dog friendly too.
A familiar Spunch area (for some of us) but from a great new venue - we are excited to bring you to a rarely visited part of the Staffordshire Moorlands. On the Staffordshire / Cheshire border between Leek, Macclesfield, Congleton & Biddulph it is about 30 mins from the M6 junctions 15, 16, 17 & 18.
Run, jog or walk - suitable for trail runners, park runners, road runners, fell runners, adventure racers, orienteers, walkers, newcomers, and families alike. 3k to 33k, the choice is yours! Great for families and friends to do together. Suitable for all ages and abilities - lots of help available for newcomers. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a lead and under control at all times.
Start at your convenience anytime between 12pm & 2pm. (Last start for the 3 hour course 130pm). Registration open from 12pm.
Navigating with an enlarged and enhanced 1:12,500 OS Explorer map, visit as many checkpoints as you can in the time available, S-punching using the MapRun app on your smartphone, Garmin or Apple Watch.
Explore the area's rich network of excellent trails, paths and lanes. Somewhat hilly in places, you will almost certainly find yourself exploring woodland paths near Lake Rudyard, and passing through the delightful village of Horton. The more adventurous might get as far west as Lask Edge and maybe even dipping into Biddulph Moor - careful not to over commit though - it's a long way back! Even locals will likely discover new paths and places!
Great food and drink available back at the Hotel Rudyard after your run / walk - possibly outside in their beautiful gardens. The hotel is very family-friendly. Well behaved dogs welcome too.
The venue is set at the southern end of Lake Rudyard, just 30 mins from the M6 and is particularly convenient for Leek, Macclesfield, Buxton, Ashbourne, the Potteries, Biddulph & Congleton etc.
The course curator is local boy Ian (Boot) Ankers - to say he knows the area well would be an under-statement! With around 90 Spunchpoints to go for - how many will you bag?
Had it not been for Rudyard Lake, The Jungle Book may never have been written! Rudyard Kipling's parents courted here in the 1860s. Bring out your inner Mowgli in the Staffs Moorlands Jungle! ;-)
Hope you will come along and give it a go.
