YOMP Mountain Challenge
2025 see’s the 40th running of The YOMP Mountain Challenge. 6 events spread over three days providing a challenge for all ages and abilities.
Friday night starts thing off with the Sunset Stroll, a 10k guided jog/walk over Birkett Fell where along with stunning views participants will be greeted with canapes and a glass of fizz.
Saturday gets down to business with the Ultra and Mountain marathons, followed swiftly by the 20k and 10k. All 4 courses take in some of the most stunning views in the area, showcasing the Upper Eden Valley in all its glory.
Sunday is the family (and dog) friendly 5k. A low-level route taking in Stenkrith Park and the Viaduct Walk. Perfect for a personal challenge, a family adventure or a gentle jog to recover from Saturday’s exertions!
A very exciting edition for this year also takes place on Sunday. The Podgill Viaduct Abseil. Hosted by Thrudark and Lyon Equipment, this gives everyone the opportunity to abseil over 25m from one of the areas most iconic viaducts.
All events start and finish at Basecamp located at The Engine Shed, Kirkby Stephen.
There’s live music, internationally renowned speakers, catering, retail and a fully stocked bar throughout the weekend.

This year see’s something new for the YOMP, a relaxed 10k stroll to welcome in the weekend.
Starting at Basecamp with one of Anthea’s unique warmups, the route climbs up towards Tailbrigg before hitting its high point on Birket Fell where along with some of the most breathtaking views in the Eden Valley you’ll be welcomed at The Berry, Grape and Grain Fell Top tasting experience. Here you’ll be treated to a selection of some of their finest culinary products.
This fully marshalled and flagged route offers participants the flexibility to walk or jog at their own pace or join one of our friendly hosts.
Our experienced running and walking hosts will be on hand to share their knowledge of the local history and landscape along with regaling you with tales of some of their mountain adventures.
The trail running hosts will be aiming to complete the route in 1hr 15mins and the walking hosts will be aiming to get back to Basecamp in around 2hrs 15mins.
Strollers will be welcomed back to Basecamp with live music and a pint of Settle Brewery’s Night Standards Ale.
La Sportiva will be bringing along their Aequilibrium Hike and Prodigio Hike Demo sets allowing Sunset Strollers to get a taste of these new arrivals to their hike range. La Sportiva experts will be on hand to answer any questions, and demo boots will be available on a first come first served basis. Get there early to avoid any disappointment!
Cost £15 per person online. £20 on the night. Open to over 18’s only. No dogs allowed
The route has a sizeable section across the fell and covers 1000ft of elevation. Please ensure you wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the event. A headtorch/torch would be advisable.
