This trail race largely follows the Welcome Way, a circular trail through moorland landscapes, alongside rivers, canals and reservoirs, across farmland and through woodland. High points include Otley Chevin and Burley and Baildon moors.  Half marathon to ultramarathon distances.

Climb:  2200/2400/4300/6000 feet

ITRA Points: 1/1/2/3

UTMB: Q20K/Q20K/Q50K/Q50M

Event Closes: 21:30

Car Park: Opens 06:00. Craftsman Tools Car Park (owned by William Sinclair Stationers in Otley – both have kindly allowed us to use it for the race).  It is located at the end of Bremner Street off the A659 Pool Road LS21 1JD.

Registration: Otley Cricket Club Pavilion, Pool Road, Otley, LS21 1HE (Through Otley Rugby Club car park and turn right)
Ultramarathon : 06:30 to 07:15
20 Mile Race : 07:15 to 07:45
Half Marathon : 07:45 to 08:15

Kit list: You are expected to always carry the following during the race. Failure to do so may result in time penalties or disqualification, at the discretion of the Race Directors whose decision is final.

  • Drinking Cup (we do not provide plastic cups at checkpoints)
  • 500 ml water/energy drink
  • Energy Bar/Nutrition
  • Hat/Buff
  • Head Torch
  • Whistle
  • Waterproof jacket with taped seams
  • Extra base layer
  • Emergency blanket
  • Gloves
  • Hard copy of the Map/Route description (see website for details)
  • Mobile phone (with the race director’s numbers – 07950 008005 & 07702 021156 stored in it in case of emergencies). Your phone should be left switched on

This is the standard kit for all races, but please check the website for the specific race in case there are any special requirements due to the weather etc.

Trackers: All ultramarathon entrants will be supplied with a tracker and a weblink will be provided during the week prior to the race, where runners and friends and family can watch your progress during the race. Trail race (half marathon and 20 mile) runners can hire a tracker for £15. 

Start: (From Wharfemeadows Park – 10-minute walk from Car Park)

  • 07:30 Ultramarathon
  • 08:00 Miles
  • 08:30 Half Marathon

Checkpoints: Each checkpoint will have water, coke, energy bars and crisps.
If you reach a CP after the closing time you will be timed out and have to retire.

CP1 and CP2 are on all courses.
CP1: Denton (9 miles) Open 08:45 Close 11:00 (7 miles on the Half marathon course)
CP2: Burley (14 miles) Open 09:30 Close 12:45 *** DRINK STATION ONLY *** (12 miles on the Half marathon course)

CP3, CP4 and CP5 are only on the Ultramarathon courses
CP3: Shipley Glen (20/28 miles) Open 11:00 Close 15:30 (If you wish to do the loop you must get to CP3 by 13:00 you will return to this checkpoint after the loop. If you are doing the 50 mile course and do not get to CP3 by 13:00 you will be dropped down to the 34 mile course)
CP4: The Chevin (29/37 miles) Open 12:00 Close 18:00
CP5: Arthington Village Hall (44 miles) Open 15:00 Close 20:00 (50 mile course only)
Finish: Otley Cricket Club (34/42 miles) Open 10:30 Close 21:30 (This is also the cut-off giving 14 hours to complete all courses)

Every finisher receives a medal and an event T-Shirt.  Please note that although there are two ultramarathon distances, this is one event for the purposes of trophies. Finishing positions for the race series are in order of distance completed then time taken.

Final Competitor instructions: These will be emailed to all competitors as shortly after entries close, along with a final .gpx of the route.
