Entries: via SI Entries, by Friday, 28th April. Only pre-entries are allowed with no entry on the day. However entries will remain open as close as possible to the event, so long as there are maps available. Entry fees are £6 for adults, £3 for juniors (under 21) and students. Please note, these fees are the same for individuals, pairs or small groups. e.g. two adults running together would pay just £6, not £12. There is space on the entry page to add details of any other persons sharing your entry.
Start Times: Starts from 12.30 – 1.30 pm. Course closure at 3.00 pm. The Start and the Finish are both close to parking and assembly, which is in the Orangery. At the end of your run, whether completed or retired, please make sure you download so we know you have returned safely.
Course Information: There will be two courses, one Hard and the other Easy. The Hard course is approximately 4km at TD5, suitable for experienced competitors. The Easy course, approximately 2km, is for families, novices and relatively inexperienced orienteers. Controls here will be on paths, or very close to paths. Both courses are planned for times between 30 minutes and 75 minutes. For those new to the sport who came to our event last month at Williamson Park, this will be a different experience in a woodland setting. There will be club members available to help, support and give advice where needed.
Map and Terrain: The map scale is 1:7,500/5m contours, first produced for the SROC Club Handicap in 2018 by Alex Finch. Very recently the area has been used for motorbike scrambling events and, whilst Alex has subsequently updated it, competitors will come across some smaller motorbike tracks not on the map. The terrain is typical of limestone areas, with many rocks and crags, and care will need to be taken when moving over the limestone, especially if wet or covered in moss. There are patches of low brambles but these can be easily avoided. Both courses will take competitors into the delightful, sheep-cropped, parkland where members of the public, including dog walkers, might be encountered. Please be respectful.
Addition Information: Please do not attend if you have any symptoms that might suggest Covid and please contact the organiser if you have specific medical issues that you feel he should know about.
