Now in our 10th year, the Gower Coastal Races are three linear long distances trail running races following the Wales Coast Path in the Gower AONB. You will pass stunning beaches, amazing bays, tiny coves, farmland, fishing villages and amazing views from start to finish.
The Gower Ultra 50 is a classic ultra challenge, and encompasses a complete circumnavigation of the stunning Gower peninsula, Britain’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Gower Ultra Bach (34 miles) and Gower Trail Race (23 miles) take in the later part of the 50 route. All three take in a variety of terrains and are well marked with Wales Coast Path signs and, where the route leaves the path, with direction arrows and flags to make an easy to navigate adventure!
The Route
The Ultra 50 route starts on the dramatic cliffs overlooking Limeslade Bay, before dropping down to the Mumbles Pier and following the fast and flat coast path around Swansea Bay. From here you will take in Clyne Woods before reaching the north coast, the village of Gowerton and the salt marsh flats of the Loughor Estuary. It is here, at Weobley Castle that the Gower Ultra Bach joins the route for the final 34 miles. From Llandimore the route becomes more challenging as faster trail sections are replaced with rolling cliff tops, beach side coves and 5 kilometres across stunning Rhossili Bay. From Rhossli and the worms head, the path heads east along the southern coast of the Gower crossing farmland along cliff tops, now joined by the Trail race runners as all 3 races converge to take in the string of stunning beaches and bays including Port Eynon, Oxwich, Three Cliffs, Caswell and Langland until reaching Rams Tor and completing the adventure.
