Welcome to the LOC National Weekend Middle Distance and UKEOL final race at Colonel's Drive. An almost full range of courses will be available, unfortunately due to the damage to the woods the Planner was unable to provide a White or Yellow course which would comply with the technical guidelines.
The area has been newly updated by Martin Bagness (2024). Colonel’s Drive is a fast, mature runnable forest on moderately complex Lakeland terrain. Bracken covers much of the ground but at this time of year should not be a significant impediment to progress.
There is considerable contour & rock detail, some water features & some fenced enclosures. There are few walls & paths & they can be indistinct. There is a large area of windblown trees which the courses skirt around & elsewhere many fallen trees which can be avoided.
Suggested age classes for all courses are below:
Course | M Age Classes | W Age Classes |
Black | M18; M20; M21; M35; M40
Brown | M45; M50 | W18; W20; W21 |
Blue | M16; M55; M60 | W35; W40 |
Green | M65; M70 | W16; W45; W50 |
Short Green | M75; M80; M85 | W55; W60; W65 |
Very Short Green | W70; W75; W80; W85
Light Green | M14 | W14 |
Orange | M12 | W12 |
As this is a National event, you will be asked to select your start time when entering this event. Please note all start times will remain masked online until after entries have closed. Please refer to your confirmation of entry email if you need to check your start time before then.
UK Elite Orienteering League (UKEOL) - we are delighted to welcome the UK's top elite runners to Colonel's Drive for the final race in this year's UKEOL League. Anyone wishing to be included in the scoring for this league should enter the courses as suggested above.
Unsure which course to enter? The longer courses will all be technical courses, designed for experienced orienteers, not for beginners! The orange course will be a little more challenging than the yellow courses we are usually able to offer.
We encourage running in pairs or groups – it is a good way to start orienteering. To do this, enter the event using one person’s name (e.g. the junior in a junior + adult pair) and please add the names of everyone accompanying in the ‘Additional names and ages’ box when you enter. You can request extra maps, if required.
Full details are available on the LOC website at https://www.lakeland-orienteering.org.uk/events.
Everyone who attends must follow the ‘Participation Codes of Conduct’ which can be found at the British Orienteering website.
