The DR40 is the spectacular finale to the series, starting and finishing in the heart of Raydale.
Run over less technical terrain than the first two races in the series, the route takes you over Stake Moss with spectacular views over to Buckden Pike. Then follows a beautiful section of the Dales Way along the River Wharfe, a section of Roman road and a trip around Weather Fell before descending towards Semerwater.
The course consists of hard packed footpaths, quite a few road sections and some grassy trods, in good weather this route would suit a road or road to trail shoe.
Each of our race distances are just rough estimates but we have made sure this one is a bit further so you can count it as a marathon!
2025: We are changing the way the DR40 works this year. In 2025, the course will be largely unmarked (except for the sections shared with the Semerwater Stomp).
- Competitors will be given a tracker and a GPX trace to follow.
- Road crossings will still be marshalled.
- Post-race hot food, drinks and cakes will be provided by the legendary Nav4 team.
- Recce events will take place earlier in the year for anyone who would like a guided tour of the route before race day.
- 9am early start option is available for any competitor who estimates taking longer than 6.5 hours.
DR40 ULTRA: If 40km is just not far enough for you, in 2025 you can extend the course to ULTRA distance. DR40 ULTRA runners will start at 9am and complete a loop of Semerwater before completing the DR40 course. This will take your total distance to approximately 30 miles. For 2025, there will be no additional charge for upgrading to the DR40 ULTRA. DR40 ULTRA finishers will still receive a series memento if completing two other DR events in 2025, but cannot be included in the final series results.

You must be 16+ to enter this event, any runner under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
