LDWA Sussex Loops - 12, 18, 25 or 31 miles in under 11 hours

DATE.                        Sunday 3rd August 2025.

VENUE / START.     Forest Row Village Hall, Forest Row, East Sussex

PARKING.                 There is no parking adjacent to the Hall.  Nearby are 2 free public car parks:  Lower Rd off Station Rd, RH18 5HE & Hartfield Rd, RH18 5JZ. N.B. 3hr parking bays are unrestricted on a Sunday

BUSES.                 Metrobus services 270 and 291 run between East Grinsted and Forest Row.

THE ROUTE.       The course is comprised of three loops, from Forest Row Village Hall.

The South Loop – the Ashdown Forest – c12 miles.

The West Loop – the Weir Wood Loop – c13 miles.

The North Loop – the Cansiron Loop – c6 miles.

Route Options are: - South only (12 miles) , South then North (18 miles), South then West (25 miles), South then West then North (31 miles) Routes must be undertaken in sequence.

PARTICIPANTS.      Walkers and Runners welcome.

REGISTRATION.     From 07:45

START.                      08:00 - 09:00 for Walkers. 09:00 - 10:00 for Runners

FINISH.                     All participants to be finished by 19:00.  Certificates will be presented to all entrants who finish within the time limit. A badge will be available to purchase

ENTRY.                       Via SiEntries only. No entries on the day.

ROUTE DESCRIPTION.    Separate route descriptions and GPX files will be provided for each loop and will be available to be downloaded from the Sussex LDWA website from July 27th 2025. All participants MUST carry a printed route description of each Loop to be undertaken.

REFRESHMENTS.              Light food and hot & cold drinks will be available at the village hall.  Light food and cold drinks will be available at Checkpoints on the South and West Loops only. Participants will be expected to carry food and water on the North Loop. All participants MUST bring their own mug / drinking vessel.

RESULTS.                Results will be posted on the Sussex LDWA website.

THE RULES

  • The LDWA Sussex Loops is open to walkers and runners who must be over 18 years of age on the day of the event.
  • Membership of the LDWA is not required.
  • No entries on the day.
  • Sorry, no dogs except assistance dogs.
  • The closing times of each loop and will be strictly adhered to.
  • To qualify for a certificate all entrants must finish within the 11 hours  time limit and have been passed through all the checkpoints in the correct order. 
  • Retirements must be made at the Village Hall. If a retiree is unable to reach the Village Hall they should call the emergency phone number provided on the Route Description. All marshals will have the right to retire any entrant who they consider to be unfit to continue, irrespective of time. Transport back to the start will be provided for retirees.
  • The weather can change quickly so dress accordingly.
  • All entrants should carry maps to cover the whole route (OS Landranger 187 & 188 or Explorer 135).
  • A paper route description must be carried by each entrant even if walking in a group or navigating by smart phone or GPS. If the route description  is on an electronic device – sufficient batteries must be carried for 15 hours. Failure to carry a route description may mean that (a) you are not covered by the LDWA Public Liability Insurance and (b) that you will be disqualified.
  • All entrants must bring a drinking vessel.
  • Entrants may chose to do a shorter distance on the day but no entrance fee refunds will be given.
  • Entrants can add the North Loop on the day, as long as they have sufficient time left to complete it before 7pm
  • Refund Policy - Entrants can withdraw from the event up to the closing date and will receive a full refund minus an admin fee. Entrants withdrawing after the closing date will not receive a refund.
