YOMP Mountain Challenge

2025 see’s the 40th running of The YOMP Mountain Challenge. 6 events spread over three days providing a challenge for all ages and abilities.

Friday night starts thing off with the Sunset Stroll, a 10k guided jog/walk over Birkett Fell where along with stunning views participants will be greeted with canapes and a glass of fizz.

Saturday gets down to business with the Ultra and Mountain marathons, followed swiftly by the 20k and 10k. All 4 courses take in some of the most stunning views in the area, showcasing the Upper Eden Valley in all its glory.

Sunday is the family (and dog) friendly 5k. A low-level route taking in Stenkrith Park and the Viaduct Walk. Perfect for a personal challenge, a family adventure or a gentle jog to recover from Saturday’s exertions!

A very exciting edition for this year also takes place on Sunday. The Podgill Viaduct Abseil. Hosted by Thrudark and Lyon Equipment, this gives everyone the opportunity to abseil over 25m from one of the areas most iconic viaducts.

All events start and finish at Basecamp located at The Engine Shed, Kirkby Stephen.

There’s live music, internationally renowned speakers, catering, retail and a fully stocked bar throughout the weekend.

Camping is available for all. Email hello@pennineviewpark.co.uk for info.

The Thrudark Marathons

Ultra and Mountain – True tests of spirit and endurance.

 Thrudark are coming to town!

The Thrudark Marathons give you the opportunity to pit yourself against Louis, Staz and a host of Thrudark athletes. These guys don’t just sign the cheque, they turn up and make sure you earn the after party!

This route is a compilation of all the glorious aspects of spending time on the Northern Fells.

There are three well stocked feed stations along the route. All competitors will be GPS tracked for safety and allowing family and friends to track their progress throughout the day.

Registration and compulsory kit check will open at 6:00am, the race set off is 8:00am and the overall cut off time is 12.5 hours.

The Mountain YOMP

A 26 and a bit mile odyssey around the furthest reaches of the Upper Eden Valley. Taking in Wild Boar, Mallerstang Edge, Tailbrigg and the Nine Standards.

This is (with a small tweak) the original YOMP route that has been testing participants for over 40 years.

The route is fully way marked with marshals at crucial points and keeping an eye on things with quad bikes. There are two well stocked feed stations along the route.

All competitors will be GPS tracked for safety and to allow family and friends to track their progress throughout the day.
