This race on the Isle of Berneray in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland, is organised each July as part of the programme of activities which take place during Berneray Week, which has itself been running since 1986.
Start and finish at Berneray Community Hall
Start Time - 2.30pm
The 10K is small, intimate and friendly. It is run on a circular course which is definitely one of the most scenic anywhere in the islands, affording stunning views at various locations across the Minch and north up the island chain towards Lewis and Harris.
It is partly on single-track tarmac road and partly on gravel or grass track, passing round Loch Bhrusda and over the famed Berneray 'machair'. The course is mainly flat, but there are two 'gentle' hills. A unique feature is that the route passes over a kilometre-long sandy beach, which is only revealed when the tide goes out, but it never fully dries - so you might not want to wear your best running shoes!
Trophies are awarded in V40, V50 and V60 classes (male and female), as well as local winners. All participants receive a medal, as well as soup and refreshments after the race.
Walkers are more than welcome and are invited to start one hour before the main start time.
