Run to the Rising Sun 

Race Intro 

Join us for our new 10k trail race at the Rising Sun Country Park in North Tyneside. The Idea is simple: an early morning race start to greet the sunrise. No guesses as to why we chose the venue! 

A new location for us, with a faster, less challenging course than our other trail running events! A traffic-free, well-marked and marshalled route (no navigation required) on good trails - ideal for trail novices and experienced runners alike. Well-maintained paths and tracks, grassy sections, lovely woodland and just the one main summit. We have tried to time the race for you to reach the top of the Rising Sun Hill around sunrise to enjoy the wonderful views. From there it’s mainly downhill to the finish with your race over and done with in plenty of time to enjoy the rest of your day. The café will be open, and feel free to take the time to explore the park more extensively with family and friends afterwards.

Venue Information:  

Formerly the site of a coal mine but now a green oasis of 162 hectares, set in the heart of North Tyneside with extensive footpaths, bridleways and cycleways to explore. Boasting a nature reserve with ponds, woodlands and extensive grasslands, a farm and Countryside Centre, cafe with terrace and park views, the site is a haven for wildlife and an ideal place to relax and enjoy the great outdoors. https://my.northtyneside.gov.uk/category/385/rising-sun-country-park - park visitor information and map available here 

Parking: ASDA Benton supermarket, Whitley Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne NE12 9SJ. Approximately 0.5 mile from Race HQ – access via road or park footpath to Race HQ. 

Please do not park in the Rising Sun car park: there are limited spaces, and we would like to leave these for key event staff and the general public. 

Other Information 

• Terrain conditions: a mixture of hard packed gravel tracks, grassy paths, woodland paths. 

• There will be medical support on the course throughout the event. 

• Free water/chia charge/mountain fuel gels with other food and drink available to purchase at the cafe. 

• Weather: at this time of year, it is not unusual for the temperature to fall below freezing therefore we suggest bringing with you a hat, gloves, warm jacket and longs for after the race. 

• We are an eco-friendly company and do not use disposable plastic cups or offer T shirts. All our event medals are provided by Earth Runs and are manufactured from compressed card mixed with wildflower seeds. Not only are they great for pollinators, but a tree is planted for every medal that we purchase. 

• What we do guarantee is a first-class race experience where you can make memories to last a lifetime!  

• Participants are encouraged to car share when possible. You can access our Facebook car sharing group where you can arrange transport with other race day participants.
