Saturday 14th September 2024

We hope you are looking forward to the race.  You can find the race details at

https://www.amblesideac.org.uk/races/our-races/three-shires/

PARKING

The car park will be open from 08:30

All competitor parking will be at TILBERTHWAITE FARM which is only accessible from the main A593 between Ambleside and Coniston. The junction will be signed and marshalled. There is a 30 minute flagged walk from the car park to Race Assembly so please leave enough time for this. This route is ideal for off road cycling. Traffic in the Lake District is expected to be very busy and runners do misjudge this!

There will be no parking fee.  - Please Share A Car.

PLEASE DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO PARK ANYWHERE ELSE! The race depends on local goodwill. Losing that would put the race in jeopardy.

KIT CHECK/REGISTRATION

Do not come to Registration unless you have EDITED YOUR ENTRY and confirmed your on the day travel details.

If you travel to the event alone and NOT BY CAR, please inform us at Registration.

There will be a full kit check prior to Registration.

Registration is from 09:00 - 10:45.  The race starts at 11:00.

Please bring your own safety pins.

CHECKPOINT CLOSURE TIME

Confirmation that the Three Shires Stone will be the only checkpoint to carry a closure time. This will be 1pm or two hours after the race starts and will be enforced rigorously in the interest of marshal and competitor safety.

BAD WEATHER ROUTE

High mountains surround Langdale making it impossible to offer a viable bad weather route. In the event of very poor conditions we will take the decision to cancel the race and we will make every effort to do that before the Start in the interest of marshal and competitor safety. In the unlikely event of needing to call the race off once it has started runners will be informed at the next checkpoint and should get off the hill as soon as possible and report in to Race Assembly. For your safety this is most important.

SPORTident

We are pleased to have SPORTident support for the race this year which means you will be issued with a dibber at Registration and will get a download of your leg times at the Finish. The link to results is https://www.sportident.co.uk/results/Ambleside/2024/ThreeShires/

Results will be uploaded soon after you hand in your SI-Card and If you scan the QR Code at the bottom of your splits print, you can see online results on your phone at the venue, mobile signal permitting.

FOOD

This year we will be serving hot and cold drinks along with cake and fruit at the Finish. There are no drinks stations on the route but our delicious flowing Lakeland water is the cleanest you’ll ever drink! Please bring additional post race food with you.  Of course The Three Shires will be open as usual and a post race pint is practically a necessity for some of us!

THANK YOUS

  • We want to thank Andrew Birkett, farmer at Birk Howe, Little Langdale, and Tony and James at the Three Shires Inn. We couldn’t hold the race without their cooperation. Thanks to all residents of the valley for whom the race is an annual inconvenience! Also thanks to Steven Dugdale of Tilberthwaite Farm for use of the parking field.
  • Particular thanks to Matt Bland who has continued the family’s forty year support of the race.
  • Lastly thanks to all our marshals and helpers on the field. The race is an Ambleside AC ‘team effort’, like many others, and simply wouldn’t happen without the club’s support.
  • The FRA and in particular to unsung heroes Charmian Heaton and Steve Wathall  who transport, erect, dismantle, clean and store the large marquee at frequent events throughout the season.

AND FINALLY A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS
