Many thanks for entering the final race of our Kong Winter Series 2024/25 - BB KONG. We are extremely grateful for your support at our races and hope that you have enjoyed the full series.
The final details for the race are listed below - please take a few minutes to read through and ensure you have a safe and enjoyable day on Saturday. Please pay special attention to the mandatory kit requirements!
There is no parking at the village hall. Please car share as much as possible as parking is very limited! There is a large car park at Threlkeld Cricket Club (the other side of the A66 and a 10 minute walk) and we recommend that you park there. If you do decide to park in the village, you must not block any access or houses - we have developed good relationships with the local village and want to keep it that way!
The forecast is mostly dry with possible snow flurries and light winds. The temperature at the summit is predicted to be -10 with windchill. The ground is frozen so you must bring suitable studded footwear for the race - the final descent is extremely steep!
Registration is at Threlkeld Village Hall and it opens at 9:15am and closes at 10.45am.
Due to the weather forecast and expected temperatures of -10 degrees on the summits you must carry or wear a long sleeve base layer. This is a minimum requirement and we suggest you take more clothing.
As well as this, Full FRA kit must be carried throughout the race:
Maps are available to buy at registration for £2.
You are welcome to leave any spare clothing bags in the hall while you race. The race starts at 11am.
The race is an A category fell race and involves steep descents over rough ground so is not suitable for novice racers. You need to be able to navigate as the route is only partially flagged from the top of Blease Fell, you need to navigate around the rest of the race by yourself. There are 3 checkpoints:
Blease Fell GR 311270 There is a cut off at Doddick fell of 38 minutes - anyone arriving after this time will be asked to withdraw from the race and walk off the fell with the race marshalls.
The race start and finish are in different locations and are different to previous editions of the race. We are starting the race from the road below the primary school at GR 319253. You will then have a short climb on the road before entering the woods above Dickney Car Park. The race is finishing at the track by Dickney Car Park GR 318256.
There are a couple of hazards on the course for you to be aware of:
If you retire from the race, please tell a race marshall and report back to the race finish to avoid any unnecessary call outs to mountain rescue.
Timing/Results
The event will use SPORTident Contactless Punching. You wear your SIAC Timing Card on your right wrist (no GPS device on the same wrist) and just run through each checkpoint channel and the Finish. There is no need to dip your card anywhere on the course.
Results will appear online within a few minutes of each runner finishing, mobile signal permitting. There is a QR Code at the foot of the splits print that when scanned will display the results link. The link for results is:
https://www.sportident.co.uk/results/Kong/2025/WinterR5/
You must hand in your SIAC at the Finish so that we can include you in the results and we know you are safe. There is a charge of £60 if you lose your SIAC.
After suggestions from you last year, we have had individual limited edition slate coasters made this year for all of you who have completed the series (To complete the series, you need to complete 4 races) If you have already completed the series, you can pick up your coaster when you register. If BB KONG is your 4th race, you may pick up your coaster after the race. One of our marshalls will tick your name off the list and you can go home with your hard earned prize!
There will be hot and cold drinks and biscuits in the hall after the race and we will be having a prize presentation shortly after the race has finished at about 1pm. We will be awarding prizes in the following categories - U23, Senior, V40, V50, V60 and V70 both male and female if there are sufficient entries. We will also be awarding the fastest male and female climber to Blencathra Summit and fastest male and female descenders from Blease Fell summit to the finish.
There will also be a short presentation after the main race presentation to the Series prize winners in all categories - a few of which are to be decided on the last race!
Finally, many thanks again for supporting our Winter Series - we hope that you enjoy the race and thank you for joining us!
