We look forward to welcoming you to the Cat Lane Canter on Saturday 26 April. There will be a mass start for the 5k and 10k races at 11am. Race registration will be in the performance hall at Newfield School (S8 9JP, what3words:wants.bravo.effort) and will be open from 9.45 to 10.45. To help minimise the race's carbon footprint, please walk, jog, cycle or use public transport to get the event if you can. If you need to use the car, please consider car sharing. Please arrive in plenty of time to register and collect your race number. Don't forget to bring some safety pins with you. Your number should be pinned on your chest and must be visible. 5k and 10k runners must have their number clearly displayed at the finish. 10k runners will have their numbers taken down by a marshal just after the start of the second lap. There will be a 42 minute cut off for starting the second lap. If you don't make the cut off, you will asked to proceed to the finish and complete the 5k. This is so that our marshals who are all volunteers are not left standing around in the woods for an unreasonable amount of time.
Once you have registered and collected your race number, we assume that you will be starting the race. If for any reason, you do not start the race, you must report to the finish and let the race organiser know. Similarly, if for any reason you decided to retire from the race, you must report to the finish. We don't want to be searching for you in the woods while you are sat at home on the sofa watching the snooker.
There's no drinking water on the course, so bring a bottle/hydration system if you would normally drink over a run of this distance. There will be water and squash available for runners at the end but we are not providing single use cups so please bring your own cup or bottle and help yourself to a drink at the finish. There will also be cake to buy and other stalls so don't forget to bring some cash. If you pre-ordered a butty, you'll be able to get this when you've finished the race. If you didn't pre-order, sausage, bacon or vegan sausage butties will be available to purchase until they run out. If you have friends and family coming but not racing, there will be an all age fun run taking place starting shortly after the main race. £2 entry. There will be a covered bag drop where you can leave a bag at your own risk so you don't have to carry everything with you while you race. Toilets are available in the school building.
The route starts with a lap of the field before exiting the school grounds via the gate next to the tennis courts. The course will be marked and we will have plenty of marshals in the woods. However, it's still possible to go wrong if you're not paying attention. And if one person goes the wrong way, the person following them could end up going wrong too. Please familiarise yourself with the route. We've also posted a few videos on our Facebook page to try and avoid errors from previous races: https://www.facebook.com/catlanecanter1/videos . One place it's easy to wrong is where the 5k and 10k routes split. The runner ahead of you might be running a different race so don't simply follow them. The split is not far from the start/finish. You are strongly encouraged to take a look at this section on the day as part of your pre-race preparation. Allow yourself enough time to do this before or after registration. When you re-enter the school grounds to approach the finish, there is no need to run around the field again. Look up and head straight to the finish funnel. The finish line is the start of the funnel. No overtaking in the funnel while we take down race numbers.
We're planning to give out prizes after the race at around 12.30, so do hang around if you can (especially if you think you might have won a prize). There'll be age category prizes as well as prizes for the overall winners.
