A series of three events held over the weekend of the Queens Anniversary in June.
Northern Jubil-O Day 1 – Fellgate Sprint (organised by NN)
An afternoon sprint event in Fellgate Estate, Jarrow. Fellgate Estate is an area new to orienteering and is a complex, compact urban estate with no through traffic and many footpaths. There are some roads, but these only serve the residents and are normally quiet. The area is generally flat with little or no height climb.
Each competitor will have the opportunity to enter 2 sprints within their chosen category (course 1, 2 or 3). The second course will have a chasing start, with the leaders from the first course starting first. The times for the two sprints will then be combined to give a final result for each runner.
Course lengths are now available on the Northern Navigators website - www.northern-navigators.org.uk
Northern Jubil-O Day 2 – Stockton Riverside Sprint (organised by CLOK)
A morning sprint event at Stockton Riverside. Stockton Riverside was going to be the venue for the JK 2020 Sprint, which was cancelled at short notice due to Covid. The area comprises a university campus and business park, and offers good sprint orienteering requiring fast decision making.
Northern Jubil-O Day 3 – Newcastle City Urban (organised by NATO)
A classic-length urban orienteering event in Newcastle City Centre/ Ouseburn. This race forms part of the UK Urban League (UKUL), offering challenging age-group courses. The start/finish will be on the Northumbria University campus in the city centre, with courses heading eastwards over the central motorway towards Ouseburn through streets new to orienteering. This complex area includes the ancient and modern city centre, post-war housing areas, a university campus, parks and steep-sided valleys to test the legs. The Open courses reach Newcastle’s famous quayside. Long urban courses give varied route choice and problems of navigation. Expected winning times range from around 60 min for Open to 30-35 min for Hyper Vets.
