The Durham Dales Challenge is open to any person over 18 on the day. Those under 18 can enter if they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Each entrant must carry or wear the following gear at all times: Waterproofs; Fleece Top; Emergency Food; Working Torch; Survival Bag; Whistle; Suitable footwear in good condition; Trousers to be carried if shorts are worn; Mug or cup (please make sure you are carrying this item as there will not be cups available on the day). Each group can share the following gear, but must walk together at all times Compass; First Aid Kit; OS 1:50000 map 92 Barnard Castle and Richmond or OS 1:25000 Outdoor Leisure map 31 Teesdale or North Pennines. Black & white photocopies of maps will not be accepted. Entrants who do not meet these minimum standards will not be allowed to start, and anyone without the required gear en route will be disqualified.
Checkpoints must be visited in the correct sequence using the route description for your safety and the safety of others. You are responsible for having your tally number recorded at each checkpoint.
Only retire at checkpoints and inform the marshal. Transport will be provided to Headquarters.
Please observe the Country Code. We regret that dogs are not allowed.
You should receive no outside assistance during the event.
Refunds will only be made for withdrawals before 1st June, £2.00 will be deducted for administration costs.
If we have to cancel the event a full refund will be given.
Entries are accepted at the discretion of the organisers and you may be disqualified unless you comply with these rules.
This is not a competition but a personal challenge.
